My Story

I grew up in an old copper mining town in Michigans Upper Peninsula. population less then 300.  Music for me started in the back seat of my parents 1965 Rambler station wagon.  According to my mother, I'd sing to everything on the radio.  I'm grateful for my parents preference in music, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Ray Price... well you get the picture.  Things could have been much different for me musically if we had more then two radio stations where i grew up.  I dropped out of the school band at 12 yrs old.  Nothing against the clarinet , but it just wasn't the instrument for me.  My parents agreed.  I started playing the bass guitar around that time and fell in love.  I was 13 and had my first big gig at the Calumet Theater with the Valley Gentlemen.  I was hooked.  I soon realized early in my music that the bass wasn't the best instrument to accompany my vocals. So, at 14 yrs old  my father and I picked out my first guitar, a 1978 Cortez 6 string. That was the beginning of my passion for the acoustic guitar.
I was police k-9 officer for 15yrs, until I left the Houghton Co . Sheriffs Dept .in 2000... I decided life is too short to stay with one occupation.  I wasn't challenged and needed a change.  So I opened Top Dog Kennels and never looked back.  This gave me the freedom the enjoy two of my greatest passions, music and dogs.
I've truly been blessed to have the opportunities I've had and  to live the life I've chosen, I thank God every day.
